“Wholeness is never lost, it is only forgotten. Integrity rarely means that we need to add something to ourselves: it is more an undoing than a doing.”
~ Rachel Naomi Remen
My Story
For much of my young life I carried a pervasive feeling that there was something fundamentally wrong with me. I grew up surrounded by chaos and that was how I made sense of it — it had to be me.
I worked overtime trying to correct every perceived flaw, to be ‘good’ and ‘perfect’ and ‘normal’ in the hopes that it might make things okay.
In hindsight, I’m not surprised I couldn’t sustain this. Perfection, however seductive, is a myth. I kept falling short, and eventually it burnt me out. I knew I couldn’t shame myself into changing.
Instead, healing has been a process of reconnecting. Of embracing all the parts of me I’d once spurned. Sitting with them taught me there was never anything fundamentally wrong with me; I was okay.
The more I learned to trust I was okay the easier it felt to connect with the world and people in ways that felt meaningful and important. I discovered that’s where the magic is — in meaningful connection — and I knew I wanted to make more of it.
Now, as I walk with others through their stories I embrace imperfection. I’m still human and messy and growing. We all are.
My Why
Because when we heal we become more connected, and when we feel more connected we are kinder, braver, and more thoughtful in the world.
My Philosophy
I believe that healing involves softening and reconnecting. We soften the outdated armour we once took on to protect ourselves, and we reconnect with the parts of us we pushed away because we learned they weren’t safe to embody.
And I believe that healing happens experientially and collaboratively. It’s a process of being with as well as talking about, a practice of understanding change in our minds as well as feeling it in our bodies. And throughout that, I trust in your capacity to know and care for yourself. I’m here to be your teammate and compassionate witness as you become more you.
